How to use the Macrostrat API in Node.js

Geologic maps, rock columns and stratigraphy data. This guide calls it from Node.js with code we've run against the live endpoint.

1. What you need

Node.js 18 or newer (fetch is built in). Save as `index.mjs` and run `node index.mjs`.

No API key or sign-up. Endpoint: https://macrostrat.org/api

4. Before you ship

Set a timeout and handle non-200 responses: free APIs can rate-limit or go down.
Cache responses where you can, instead of calling the API on every page view.
