4xx Client error

410 Gone

The resource was deliberately removed and won't be coming back.

What 410 means

A stronger 404: the server knows the resource existed and is gone for good. APIs use it for retired endpoints and versions.

Common causes

  • A deprecated API version or endpoint was shut down.
  • Deleted content.

How to fix it

If you're calling an API

  • Migrate to the replacement endpoint in the API's changelog.

If you run the server

  • Use 410 for retired endpoints so clients and search engines stop requesting them.

Should you retry?

No.
